Description:

The mission of the CEC's Food Committee is to advertise methods of mitigating food waste, provide food disposal alternatives on campus, and strategically align ourselves with the Division of Health and Food Services all to promote sustainable food at The University of Texas.

Meetings: We have meetings twice a month. They are typically on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the Honors Quad.

Compost: We have set up a composting system for everyone to use. One composter is next to Prather Hall Dormitory. Another composter is soon to be set up outside of Jester.

When composting, please remember that it is good to compost uncooked veggies, fruit, and paper napkins but not meat, bread, and oils.

Other Projects: In addition, we are working on ways to educate the student body through film screenings and speakers. While sharing our passion for delicious, sustainable food!

In spring 2006, we successfully worked with the Division of Housing and Food Service to start a program serving locally-grown food in the dining halls.

We are planning to host a screening of the documentary "The Future of Food" next semester. This film investigates the complex world of modern agriculture, exploring the dangers of genetically modified foods and the destructive impact of large-scale corporate agriculture.
