Description:

Overview
Chicago Green Homes provides the tools and strategies for building homes and multi-family buildings that are energy-efficient and environmentally responsible. By encouraging the use of new technologies, products, and practices, and certifying those efforts, it also creates choice in the marketplace for buyers and renters, and gives builders and developers a way to distinguish their products.

Eligibility
Most residential projects are eligible, including new construction and renovations of single-family homes (including town homes) and multi-family buildings (less than 80 feet in height). The program is voluntary; however, if you are seeking financial assistance from the City, your participation may be required.

How It Works
Use the Chicago Green Homes Checklist and choose from a range of building options and strategies, each with an associated point value. Consult the Chicago Green Homes Program Guide for detailed explanations and technical information. Achieve a 1, 2, or 3-star-rating based upon the number of points earned. Receive a Chicago Green Homes Certificate for your project upon review and approval by the Chicago Department of Environment.

Incentives
In addition to receiving a Chicago Green Homes Certificate, participants will be granted the use of the Chicago Green Homes logo and their projects will be recognized on the City’s website. Projects submitted to the program may also qualify for the Chicago Department of Buildings expedited green permit process. To learn more about the process and eligibility requirements, visit the City’s website at http://www.cityofchicago.org/dcap. Choose “Green Permit Program” under the “Permit Program” category.

Participation
To participate in Chicago Green Homes, applicants must complete an applicant agreement, enrollment form and checklist, and submit all necessary drawings and documentation. Enrollment prior to beginning construction is preferred.
