About Us
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established by County Ordinance 76-64 in December of 1976 to enhance the status of women. The CSW operates within the County's Civil Rights Division. Each of the nine County Commissioners appoints two members, for a total of 18 members. The CSW benefits from this relationship through direct access to elected officials, governmental agencies and legislative data.

Mission
The Broward County Commission on the Status of Women is dedicated to identifying and resolving economic, health, social, and all other issues concerning women’s lives through education and advocacy.

What We Do

  • Promote participation by women in the public and private sectors.
  • Create public awareness of the needs, contributions and potential of women in all facets of community life and public office.
  • Advocate legislative and administrative action to eliminate discrimination and to promote equality for women.
  • Compile data, make reports and issue results of research and investigations.
  • Seek new expanded services for women in Broward County in the areas of education, child care, employment, housing, social concerns, criminal justice, finance, marriage, divorce and families.
  • Work to eliminate discriminatory practices against women.

What We Can Do For You

  • Supply information on the status of local, state and national legislation of importance to women.
  • Furnish statistics regarding women in Broward County.
  • Endorse and encourage the development of seminars, workshops and programs on subjects of concern to women.
  • Maintain resource files of current data and a library of materials on women and women's issues.

  • Volunteer to help with and attend committee meetings and activities.

The CSW Meets at the Broward County Government Center at 6:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.
