ABOUT VISIONS TO ACTIONS
Starting in February 2007, the City of Rossland began the process of developing a long-term planning strategy for the municipality. The project, called Visions to Action, is framed around engaging the community in a conversation about the desired future of Rossland. It also is focused on building awareness within the community and beyond of how we can plan for a better, more sustainable future.

There are two key components of the project:

1. The development of a Strategic Sustainability Plan, and

2. An update to the Official Community Plan, to reflect the community’s long term strategic direction.

Rossland’s Strategic Sustainability Plan will define where the community wants to be in the year 2025 and outline what actions need to be taken to realize those goals. In creating this plan, the following questions will be answered:

1. Where are we today?

2. What to think about in our future?

3. Where do we want to be in the future?

4. How will we get there?

A Sustainability Task Force has been formed to engage in the project and community members will be invited to discuss these questions, so that together we can identify what actions will lead Rossland in our desired direction.

Once the Strategic Sustainability Plan is complete, we will then move on to the second phase of the project to update the Official Community Plan (OCP) so that it reflects the directions identified in the Strategic Sustainability Plan. This process will focus on the spatial, “land use” implications of what our community looks like and how it can be developed to reflect our long-term goals.
