A video about the City's popular Citizens' Academy was recently awarded an Emmy in the "Program Feature Category" at the National Association of Television, Arts & Sciences Southwest Chapter's 34th Annual Emmy Awards. The event was held on Saturday, June 14 at the La Costa Resort and Spa.

"The City is honored that the Citizens' Academy feature was recognized for excellence," said Val Brown, City of Carlsbad video production manager and producer of the award-winning piece. "It's especially gratifying as viewers really get an opportunity to see what a transformation Citizens' Academy has on those who attend."

The Citizens' Academy feature, titled "At the Academy," was featured in the City's spring 2007 Community Update Video, "Onward and Upward." The segment featured academy participants as they went through the six-week course, which included a bus tour of the City. The academy is designed to give residents an up-close look at how City government functions. Attendees have the opportunity to meet City Council and staff; learn about City departments, programs and services; and take a tour of the City and its facilities. To date, more than 600 residents have attended the academy, which began in 2001.

The annual Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievements in television. The presentation of awards is intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence for those working in television and to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements in television.
