I also bought Wikipatterns, which Amazon was pushing at a big discount. It seems to focus more on concept, usability and ways of making a wiki more successful and widely used. It seems to be right up the alley of what About Us does. Are you familiar with it? I'll let you know what I think.

Just gave you sysop status. I thought we did the changes to the tabs you wanted? The link you gave on that didn't lead to anything that talked about how to change tabs.

yea! talk page is on :-)

Ya mean like this? ~~Tsmith

The index page is okay for now -- since we're working on it. Once we go live, though, I think we'll need to revert it simply because it won't make a lot of sense to the average visitor who comes via Google, Yahoo or DogPile. Such folks might never scroll down to see the Index itself. Trey

Mark: Dean & I were talking about the "location" category and we both agreed that it should refer to geographic places. So, I've created another category called "entity type" for the various governments to be housed in. I changed "Type" to "Legislation" simply because Type begs the question: Type of what?

I also shortened Labor Union Resolutions to Labor Unions because a) we already have a Resolutions category and b) some of the stuff listed might reflect a policy decision, not strictly a resolution.

Mark - The issue is how can we force a search using some kind of markup on a page. The map page uses extension markups and the stuff in between those goes on the map. For most maps, like the Fort wiki map, and pins have a link built into them that leads to one page in the wiki - the specific fort in that case. But since our towns sometimes have over a dozen entries, that doesn't work for us. So I wanted the "link" to actually force a search on the town that the pin corresponds to, so people who click on the link will get a full listing. That's what I figured out how to do today. Check it out.

Mark - Of the 4 items above, 2 and 3 should now be fixed. Email is enabled in the settings file, and the wiki did send me a new password by email. Maybe there is a separate function for the watch function?

As of yet, I have not figured out how to enable Recent changes on the navigation menu.

Mark - Is this the way I should respond to your message in my talk page?

As to the things you asked about:

Your e-mail address was authenticated on 12:35, 21 November 2007. E-mail me when a page I'm watching is changed E-mail me when my user talk page is changed E-mail me also for minor edits of pages Enable e-mail from other users Send me copies of emails I send to other users

The user profile under my preferences gives me a check box to enable e-mail from other users. You don't have that? And I don't know anything about the others. And I don't remember seeing anything about them in the book. Are these controlled by setup variables?

Dmyerson Dean

By the way, is there any problem in deleting some of those bogus users who haven't logged in in ages?

Hope 4pm is okay - let me know if not.

Agenda

~~ Dmyerson

So Mark,

I was working on the color of the boxes on the left side yesterday. And at the same time I succeeding in using the image file to give them their current green, the right-hand box on the main page took on the darker green. I assumed it was some unintended consequence of what I was doing, and eventually figured out how to get rid of it. Then I realized that there was no way my work could have caused that, so I went to the history today and saw that you were apparently putting that in at the same time.

so it was YOUR fault!!!

I guess that is one of the occasional risks of community editing. It was the same green I had used previously that Trey had complained about, but your version was only on the main page. Maybe we should put it back and see if he notices, since he probably doesn't use the main page much.

Also, just bought two more wiki books. One, Professional Wikis, covers a lot of the same ground as the Wiki Admin book I already have, but also has a chapter on the wiki API, as well as extensions. The API stuff should open up lots of possibilities for cool customization, and I hope the extensions chapter has some good ones that the amin book doesn't.

I also bought Wikipatterns, which Amazon was pushing at a big discount. It seems to focus more on concept, usability and ways of making a wiki more successful and widely used. It seems to be right up the alley of what About Us does. Are you familiar with it? I'll let you know what I think.
