RESOLUTION NO. 07-50
AUTHORIZING THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) APPLICATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE BUILDING ORDINANCE

WHEREAS, the Town Council has determined that the environmental impacts of buildings can be detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of the community; and

WHEREAS, the Town’s comprehensive plan, the Vision 2020 Master Plan, includes goals, policies, and implementation strategies that support the creation of a Sustainable Building Ordinance; and

WHEREAS, the Town Council adopted Resolution 07-04 endorsing the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, which includes a strategy to “practice and promote sustainable building practices using the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program or a similar system”; and

WHEREAS, creating an ordinance that includes minimum standards and incentives for the design and construction of sustainable buildings will result in reduced green house gas emissions and reduce the Town’s contribution to global warming; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Taos wishes to apply for a CDBG to create a Sustainable Building Ordinance; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council that Town staff is authorized to apply for a CDBG for the purpose of creating a Sustainable Building Ordinance.
