RESOLUTION NO. 3326
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MONTE SERENO ENACTING THREE “GREEN” POLICY RECCOMENDATIONS.

WHEREAS, the City of Monte Sereno recognizes the significant threat of Global Climate Change; and

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Monte Sereno has directed City staff to explore alternatives for enhancing “Green” practices; and

WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Cities Association has adopted three recommendations for voluntary adoption by all Santa Clara County cities; and

WHEREAS, the City of Monte Sereno participates in the Green Building Collaborative of the Santa Clara County Cities Association in recognition that the promotion of “Green” building design will reduce the impact on Global Climate Change; and

WHEREAS, the LEED rating system of the US Green Building Council is recognized internationally as the standard for commercial and industrial “Green” building design and evaluation; and

WHEREAS, the Build It Green GreenPoint Rated rating system is recognized as the state-wide standard for residential “Green” building design and evaluation; and

WHEREAS, requiring a “Green checklist” for all residential and commercial development proposals over 500 square feet will provide the City of Monte Sereno with the opportunity to monitor and encourage “Green” building practices in private development; and

WHEREAS, the City of Monte Sereno recognizes and values the importance of greening City facilities as a means of reducing the impact of Global Climate Change and by requiring LEED Silver certification for all new or renovated municipal facilities over 5,000 square feet, the City of Monte Sereno will reduce its environmental impact, and set a positive example for private development;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Monte Sereno enacts three “Green” policy recommendations made by the Santa Clara County Cities Association to recognize/adopt the LEED/Green Point rating systems; require the completion of a “Green Checklist” as part of all development applications; and require LEED Silver certification for all new or renovated municipal buildings over 5,000 square feet.
