LAS CRUCES METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION RESOLUTION NO. 05-014
A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE CITY OF LAS CRUCES, TOWN OF MESILLA, AND DOÑA ANA COUNTY TO ADOPT BICYCLE PARKING DESIGN STANDARDS AND ORDINANCES AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THEIR RESPECTIVE ZONING CODES.
The Las Cruces Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Policy Committee is informed that:
WHEREAS, commuting by bicycle is an increasingly popular form of transportation; and
WHEREAS, safe and convenient bicycle parking facilities should be made available at destinations throughout the MPO area; and
WHEREAS, both the 2000 and 2005 Transportation Plans direct staff to develop and present options for bicycle parking facilities; and
WHEREAS, at the meeting held on June 21, 2005, the Bicycle Facilities Advisory Committee recommended proposed Bicycle Parking Design Standards; and
WHEREAS, at the meeting held on August 16, 2005, the Bicycle Facilities Advisory Committee recommended a proposed Bicycle Parking Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Policy Committee has determined that it is in the best interest of the MPO for this Resolution to be APPROVED.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Policy Committee of the Las Cruces Metropolitan Planning Organization:
(I) THAT the Las Cruces MPO Policy Committee supports the inclusion of Bicycle Parking Design Standards and Ordinances into local Zoning Codes and encourages the City of Las Cruces, Town of Mesilla, and Doña Ana County to undertake this important effort.
(II) THAT MPO staff is directed to take appropriate and legal actions to implement this Resolution.
