RESOLUTION NO. 080919
Supporting the decision of the Water Services Department to discontinue its bottled water program.

WHEREAS, Kansas City produces the best tap water in the country and has been consistently recognized with top honors in water quality, taste, odor, and appearance; and

WHEREAS, bottled drinking water has significant environmental impacts, from the high carbon footprint of producing and distributing single serve petroleum bottles to the potential of the bottles not being recycled and filling our landfills; and

WHEREAS, the Water Services Department will discontinue its bottled water program effective October 1, 2008; and

WHEREAS, this City Council has gone on record several times expressing its desire to be the greenest city in the country and WSDs decision to cease bottled water production puts the City a step closer to this goal;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL IN KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and the Council hereby wholeheartedly support the decision of the Water Services Department to discontinue its bottled water program effective October 1, 2008.
