Mayor Signs Ordinances Continuing Funding After-School and Park Projects
Funding will come from federal grants and interest earned on past grants
INDIANAPOLIS - Late last week, Mayor Bart Peterson signed two Fiscal Ordinances approving over $700,000 in funding in the 2003 Budget of the Department of Parks and Recreation to continue after school programming, improve park facilities, and support upcoming construction projects. Funding will come from a federal grant and interest earnings on Lilly Endowment funds.
Fiscal Ordinance No. 91, 2003, funds the continuation of the after school programs in Forest Manor School, School #108, and The Boys and Girls Club in Raymond Park Middle School for the 2003-2004 school year.
The second ordinance approved by Mayor Peterson, Fiscal Ordinance No.92, 2003, approves funding to install shelters at Indy Parks summer lunch sites, replace damaged playground equipment in Washington Park, and support projects at Garfield, Christian, Rhodius, and Bethel Parks.
"The commitment that Mayor Peterson has shown to building better parks has been essential in our growth and development," said Indy Parks Director Joseph Wynns. "We are always looking for ways to continue to meet the recreational needs of all Marion County residents."
During the 2002-2003 school year, Indy Parks and Recreation held after-school programs servicing 19 Marion County schools and over 1000 children.
