Description:

Since 1987, the Community Partnerships for Social Change program has been a campus resource for students and faculty who wish to integrate their academic interests with their social action / community-based experiences forging a link between the classroom and the community. A primary goal of the program is to facilitate respectful, reciprocal relationships between local communities and Hampshire College students, faculty, and staff.

Community Partnerships offers community-based internship and research opportunities, training seminars, and a variety of resources to strengthen students' social justice organizing skills. Students are encouraged to meet with CPSC staff for advice about making community work a central component of their Divisional work.

CPSC has many resources available to support students, faculty and staff in making the connections between academia and community-based learning:

• Resources for finding local Social Action Agencies.

• Ongoing relationships with local community-based organizations.

• Opportunities to use two CPSC vehicles for off-campus internship placements.

• Summer grants for students working for social justice organizations.

• Sponsor events, lectures, conferences and trainings around a variety of issues including developing reciprocal relationships with community organizations and how interlocking issues of oppression may affect this process.

• Funding for Faculty who want to integrate community-based learning into their courses.
