Description:

Energy audits and monitors
Council has two exciting offers to help you save energy at home:

  • $50 cash-back for the ClimateSmart Home Service (commencing January)
  • $50 rebate on an in-home energy monitor (for residents who want to start saving now)

In Home Energy Monitors
An in-home energy monitor makes it easy to keep track of and reduce your home's electricity usage. How it works

A sensor and transmitter are installed in your switchboard. Readings are sent by a transmitter to a display inside your home. The monitor then works out your energy usage and costs, and your greenhouse gas emissions.

The monitors can also display temperature and humidity levels.

Rebates
The ClimateSmart Home Service (as above) will install an energy monitor in your home, and this service is available from 1 January.

In the meantime, you can buy an energy monitor at:

Brisbane City Council is offering a $50 rebate on the cost of installation, once the energy monitor has been installed. The monitors cost $130 but must be installed by a licensed electrician at an extra cost.

To claim the rebate you need to complete an application form.

Free ClimateSmart Home Service
Brisbane residents can take advantage of the Queensland Government's ClimateSmart Home Service. The service normally costs $50 but Council will make this service free for Brisbane households.

The ClimateSmart Home Service starts on 1 January 2009. You will be contacted closer to that date by the state government to confirm your interest.
