Description:

The City of Bettendorf is making it easier for citizens to be better informed about the day-to-day business and operation of city government by offering the first City Citizen Academy: Bettendorf 101.

Bettendorf 101 is a free workshop that provides an in-depth and hands-on look at city government. Participants will be able to go behind the scenes and experience first-hand the diverse operation of the departments that provide street maintenance, parks, emergency response, and a host of other services, which make Bettendorf a premier city.

"Bettendorf 101 is designed to give up to 20 interested residents an insight into the operation of various departments of government. The goal of the academy is to have better informed citizens who will bring their specialized knowledge on how city government works back to their respective neighborhoods," comments Decker Ploehn, City Administrator.

The series of six classes will begin on Thursday, September 4-October 16, 6-9 p.m. and will meet on Thursdays except for one Saturday session, which will meet 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Bettendorf 101 is open to anyone who is a Bettendorf resident and is at least 18 years of age. Interested residents can register online at http://www.bettendorf.org (open City Citizen Academy link located on the main page, under "Did You Know?") or by calling 563-344-4033.

Space is limited. Registration is required. If space is unavailable, participants will be placed on a waiting list for the next workshop.
